GROUND MATTERS
In Surfside, FL, the problems are not simply ecological, but social, economic, and political. Used as an opportunity to broaden the scope of research, Ground Matters looks not only at the present, but importantly also the past and future of this global climate crisis. Through research at the scale of both territory and town, students constructed drawings at the two scales. Then, students articulated a problem of design existing at the site of Surfside, referencing the threats to the coastal community due ever increasing flooding episodes. Students designed a single plate that tells this story through identifying the problem and offering a series of case study responses. Ground Matters addresses the environmental and ecological transformations that affect all communities within Surfside, FL.
