THE RESILIENT CASE
STUDY HOUSE

Through the design of a single-family residence, students create a case study house exemplifying strategies of coastal resilience in Surfside. How can resilience of hydrology, storms, sea level rise, ecology, infrastructure, domesticity, and identity be studied through one domestic design? The purposefully abstract projects explore an inhabited platform, further developed with resilient principles that consider the house under storm and sea level rise conditions. The designs are practical, and experimental, interrogating the nature of contemporary domestic environments. Thus designing the resilient case study house.
Special attention is dedicated to the understory conditions that appear from elevating a house on stilts. What types of new uses and rituals that might benefit community activities can be explore within these new spaces?
