PERMANENT/IMPERMANENT

CLAIRE URBAS

In response to the imperatives of climate change, the design of the house is driven by the necessity to anticipate its future ramifications. The overarching goal is to create a resilient and versatile structure, transcending its primary function as domestic space to acknowledge broader ecological pressures. With rising sea levels expected to render the site uninhabitable within 80 years, the project considers how its current habitation can take on many forms. Prioritizing both human comfort, joy, and ecological stewardship, the design features a robust inner "shell," housing essential infrastructure, complemented by lighter timber structures designed for facile repair post-catastrophe.
