TOPO-TERRACE

SHILUN (JACK) GUO

Designed as a stepping platform, this dwelling prioritizes
flexibility and open-ended use. An expansive, open
platform terraces around a more enclosed volume housing
private domestic functions. The stepped configuration
promotes a welcoming connection with the street at the
inhabited level, while blurring the boundary with the rear
garden at the understory. The material contrast between
the massive enclosure and the almost topographic quality of
the surrounding platform introduces a dialogue in the
architecture between its fortified resilience and its capacity
to integrate within the surrounding landscape.
